Unity vs Hatred…

If the love I feel for my fellow man could close the gap, span the chasm between us, I would pray to love more strongly.

This country and it’s people are broken. Splintered. Anger and hatred are growing, spreading, like a vine that is choking us to death. We are dying from the inside out…and I have no idea how to stop the growth.

Blacks hate whites, whites hate blacks, this political group hates that political group. Image result for cartoons about hate groups

I home schooled a small group for several years. Informing them that we would be starting a studying of Native American history the next day, one boy exclaimed, “Why do we need to be studying about “niggers?” Shocked to my core, I explained that I was part Native American.

Why would he say such a thing? Only then did I realize why my mother had never disclosed my heritage to her family when I was adopted. Their attitude towards me would have changed from mild dislike to hatred. She wasn’t prejudiced, she was trying to protecting me from it. Our children believe what we teach them to believe.

Each and every group has shameful things in their past. Our histories are dotted with evil acts done in the name of color, race, and religion. It is tragic and we must learn from them; never repeat the mistakes. Yet, it is the past. We can no more change them than we can stop time. How can we ever Image result for cartoons about hate groupsmove forward if we continue to try and make the people of today pay for crimes they did not commit? How is destroying monuments, statues, and flags going to change anything that happened?

We are one nation under God, but shattered and broken almost beyond repair. Can we not come and reason together? Can we not love each other with understanding and Image result for cartoons about hate groupscompassion? Respecting and embracing our differences, becoming stronger and healing our nation? Mutual respect for differing opinions, ideology, color…and defending each other’s right to have them, is vital for healing to begin.

Again, if I could love better, love stronger, love more completely; heal the wounds we have inflicted on each other, I would pray for the ability to do so.

God loves us all. He makes no distinction, has no favorites. He loves the straight, the gay, the transexual, the black, the white, the terrorist, the Muslim, the Hindu…and the list goes on and on. No one is exempt until the day of judgement. Image result for cartoons about God's love

We can make ourselves stronger, better, if we will only put aside the hate.
